Each letter of our name, CEIPHERS, stands for one of the values of our company.
The fourth letter in CEIPHERS … the P… stand for Prevail … and is lesson I learned the hard way.
Life is full of challenges — some small, some large and some gigantic. Sometimes when we are presented with obstacles or challenges in life, we may become overwhelmed by the task ahead. We forget that a journey of 1,000 miles starts with one step.
I remember a few years back when I first moved to Phoenix, I spent hours on end each day searching for a job. I can’t even count the number of rejections I received. Being an immigrant in a foreign land made it harder to get a decent job. It made me angry and then sent me spiraling into a very dark place. Something had to give … I could not let my nationality hold me back from getting a job, providing for myself and my family.
I took a step back and realized that my biggest weakness could also be my biggest opportunity. I had the opportunity to change the narrative while creating a way for me to earn income. If no one would give me a job, I was going to create one for myself and prevail despite the fact that the deck was stacked against me. I was at the base of what would be, and still is, one of my toughest climbs. I was about to embark on what would become my version of the American dream in the pursuit of happiness.
It wasn’t going to be easy but I was going to do it! I was going to start my own business. Then it hit me … where would I even start? At that time, I didn’t have much experience running a business, and had no idea what I had just gotten myself into. One thing I did know was that I wanted to go into the fashion industry. But how? Well, I had experience as a graphic designer and an artist so I simply started by sketching out design ideas and creating the graphics in Photoshop and Illustrator. Again, a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. I started by designing and built from there.
Life is continuous journey, however, and I did not think that my journey was over when I started the business. No, that was just the first step on a long road. I am constantly running into roadblocks, paralyzing moments of indecision, confusing choices and so much more. But I continue to try, and to eventually prevail. Every single day I continue to chase my dreams, chip away at my goals and continue to build the brand.
In short, I’m stubborn. I don’t give up easily. Neither should you! If your dream is worth chasing, it is worth working for. Keep trying and you, too, will prevail.
